A German-American Thanksgiving in Cambridge

Thanksgiving is one of our favorite American traditions and we were hosting it for the last 10 years.
Though some things were new this year...
We attended the Cambridge High School Football game on Thanksgiving Eve. Jakob was playing, not football, but saxophone.

It was a first Thanksgiving at our new house and with new friends we met here (and old ones, of course!).
After we prepared the turkey, Olaf took care of it for the next six hours...as usual.

The holiday season officially started, Santa already is on his way...

Vote!!!

If I could vote I would be "with HER".
We were hoping to be able to vote, but the bureaucracy slows the process... Next election!
So, we will wait anxiously for the results tonight, as the rest of the nation, too...and worry what will expect us tomorrow...

A Stormtrooper in Cambridge

Jakob's favorite holiday: Halloween!
A hard core Star Wars fan, he decided to be a stormtrooper this year.
Except for the helmet his costume was self made, he even converted his soccer gear into armor. All the other parts he somehow found in the house.
His transformation took a while...
Then, he was off with his friends for trick or treating.

Germany 2016: Visiting family and beyond!

Our annual Germany trip had more highlights than usual...

The main reason was Olaf's mom 80th birthday, of course.
But we also visited Hamburg with my parents!

We took walks along the harbor, explored the Elbtunnel and saw the new Elbphilharmonie.

Our harbor cruise, even with the cold october weather, was wonderful.

And because it was so cold, we had to warm up in some really good places.

Vor example, at Tim Maelzer's Restaurant "Bullerei". Funny, Tim Maelzer cooking book was the farewell gift from my sister in law before we moved to the USA.

The view from our hotel was breath taking!

A special perk for the men's team: they watched soccer! Germany vs Czech Republic! We won, ha, ha

Meanwhile, my mom and I took the ferry to the Elbtheater. The Lion King was on stage!

I also got a chance to see a special exhibition (which just started the day before we arrived, yeah!) of one of my favorites artists: Rene Magritte.

After two days in Hamburg we arrived in Cologne and met with Olaf's parents.

We also visited our "old" friends.

And then, there was the family reunion and Olaf's mom 80th birthday! Party included!

And one more soccer game. This time with Olaf's parents in Cologne.

Last picture before taking off to the airport...
Three generations! But they obviously have one thing in common...ha, ha

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

The American Cancer Society hosted this annual walk  last Sunday.
They meet every year in Boston: survivors, their families and friends, care givers and people who only want to show support.
I was there too, like many other volunteers,  representing our Road to Recovery program for the ACS.
