At the beach

What's better than to spend the Sunday afternoon at the beach?!

Living in the city we forget how close to the ocean we are.
And to the first public beach in America!
Joey, for sure, found his favorite spot in Boston!

Welcome to Switzerland!

You don't even need to leave Boston. Here it is: The Swiss Bakery!
You will find there: "Laugenbrezeln", "Laugenstangen", "Mueslibroetchen" and "Berliner" (No, it's not the citizen of Berlin, lol).
And Apple tarts, of course.
I was tempted to buy almost everything. Not very often will you find here a European Bakery. But then again, it's Boston after all...

Happy Saturday!

It's dumpling time!

Our newest discovery: Dumpling House!  Yummy!
A perfect lunch spot for my friend and me after visiting the Avenger.

Dining out with my son

It happens not often, but there are still these few spare moments when you see a teenager happy. And even smiling. This was one of those moments. Jakob especially enjoyed the Churos at Ole' Restaurant in Cambridge.

Listening to the classics

The Memorial Hall at Harvard indeed is a gorgeous setting for a classical concert.
The outside of the building is very impressive too, but the wood work inside is stunning.

The Boston Philharmonics played Schumann, Mendelssohn and Elgar and got a standing ovation, especially the soloist.
You even were able to forget how terribly uncomfortable the wooden benches are...

Here comes the sun...

Yesterday it was freezing cold, today the spring arrived. At least it feels like that.
We got a glimpse how Boston will feel in the summer: crowded. Though we enjoyed it all.

Especially the ice cream!

Winter joy in Cambridge

There are many fun things you can do on a freezing Friday afternoon in the city, likeroast marshmallows over the fire pits,
play ice curling,

ice skate, or watch the ice skaters while sitting on these cool benches,

or eat hot belgian waffles at Zinneken's.

Being a tourist...

Planning our vacation trips for this year I reminded myself that I need to put Cambridge on top of the list. So, I took a walk through the Harvard Campus.

One of the few churches open during the day. I took a peak.

Two things I especially love about Cambridge: it's a city of book readers and bikers. Yes, there actually still are book stores (great ones!). People are reading! Some people obviously can't resist to take a selflie inside, ha, ha.

And they still go to the library. (Where you can find even German magazines like Der Spiegel and Bunte).

Sometimes I have the feeling that more people are biking here than actually walking. I give them a lot of credit, it's freezing out there...No wonder there are bike stores around the corner.

Working? Really?!

At our recent visit at my favorite Restaurant Puritan & Company I heard it again :"Are you still working on it?".  I just hate this phrase! How can you work on a delicious dinner? You enjoy it! You relax! And, please don't rush to take my plate away.
You may be working (and chewing, ha,ha) on the bill afterwards...

Or on getting home on the slippery roads after the snow fall...

On President's Day: JFK

What could be a better destination on President's Day than the JFK Library in Boston.
Not only the stunning architecture is worth a visit.
Watching the documentaries, listening to his speeches can be very inspirational. Like this one at the Berlin Wall.

We are in the year of presidential election again. I would highly recommend most of the candidates a visit at this museum. One of my favorite quotes I read today:

The campaign songs were much better than today, too...
